I hope he prices the other stuff in his new store a little higher, because if he sells everything for as little as he sold this bass, as compared to what he could have gotten, he'll be out of business fast. He'd been in a band for almost 20 years, playing this bass among other things (like a custom made banjo), so he knew what this thing was. Now, the owner of the soon to be store was also the owner of the bass. One for volume and balance/pan between the bridge and (split) neck pickup, the other for preamp's the two band EQ: treble boost/cut and bass boost/cut. The controls are amazingly simple: two coaxial pots. There was precious little on the Fender web site, except for some forum posts. I opened that back and lo and behold, there's a 9V battery and preamp tucked in the back. A little googly action and I found out they came with active electronics. When I go it home, I looked up the manufacturing date and the type. 15 minutes after walking in I walked out with the bass. I'd been shopping for a bass for a while, but this deal was too good to pass up. And right next to it was a price tag: $69.95. Looking closer I saw a Fender sticker on the head stock. I talked to the owner and looked over the instruments. First thing I noticed was several guitars on stands and some bano cases on the floor. I stopped at a soon-to-open second hand store where they were just moving stuff in.
